I’d like to note that there spoilers in this review. They appear mostly in the “What I Disliked Or Wanted More Of” section so you should be safe until then. I really tried, but I just cannot fully explain my thoughts without diving into some things. If you do not want to be spoiled, read to the end of “What I liked” then skip straight to “Conclusion“. You’ve been warned.
So, now that all the adrenaline rush and excited feelings have somewhat settled down, I finally got to sit down to write this review.
First off, the movie is extremely fun with a copious amount humour nicely scattered throughout the film. There is also a large amount of action with not too much down time. Never once is there a dull moment. You will get your money’s worth of entertainment, I guarantee it. It’s a definitely a summer popcorn blockbuster through and through.
I do like to take this time to quickly mention that I caught The Avengers on IMAX 3D, which by the way, is super boss! I highly recommend this format if it is available to you. The picture was so sharp and crisp that you could see every pore, every detail on absolutely everything. Everything pops at you in exquisite detail and I loved it! I loved it!
The 3D, while not the best I’ve ever seen, is certainly enhanced by the IMAX screen. I can envision the 3D not being as amazing on a regular 3D screen. The brightness and clarity of the IMAX format makes everything much more fluid and vivid.
If anything, the IMAX format definitely enhanced all the fast paced action, allowing myself to experience that rare, wholly satisfying adrenaline rush.
In fact, the rush was so potent that I had a hard time gathering my thoughts properly even when many hours have passed. All I could do when I got home was silently scream in my head in a fangirling frenzy. I was spazzing out and it was hard to contain all the emotions and feelings that was sprouting all over the place. There was just so much information to filter through; so much epic-ness and awesomeness to digest.
But eventually I did mange to filter through all the excitement and fangirling feelings. As everything slowly settled down, certain things started to stand out to me. It slowly became clear to me that while The Avengers was an excellent and fun movie, in the end it had a few flaws and problems.
This is not to say I disliked the movie, on the contrary, I liked it. I liked it a lot. It’s just that as I thought about it some more, especially after recovering from the initial excited fervor, certain things began to nag at me, turning what could have been a perfect movie into something not as perfect as I would like it to be.
