2011 Summer Movie Previews + Trailers

It’s the start of the summer movie season and all the studios are bringing out the big guns, explosions and wild rides. Forget about stories and plot. 😉 It’s the summer! Fun and brainless movies is king! Below is a run down of movies that Plushie is most excited about, as well as others that are interesting enough (or perhaps bad enough) to be on my radar.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Release Date: May 20th, 2011
Excitement level: High

Good old Captain Jack is back again. This time they seem to be trying to go back to their roots to bring the swashbuckling fun back. The last two films, while entertaining, got a little carried away with itself, and became lost in it all.

From the trailers, Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz’s chemistry looks to be off the charts! Ian McShane looks like an amazing Blackbeard and It is also interesting to see Barbossa on the other side of the law.  Although it stills remains to be seen if it will indeed live up to the wonderful first film, but somehow I can’t wait to find out!

Midnight in Paris
Release Date: May 20th, 2011
Excitement level: High

I actually didn’t know about this film until I was writing up this post. The trailer has certainly charmed me to bits. The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful and it looks to be a cute, and magical film. I think among all the explosions and cgs, it’s a breath of fresh air to see a film like this that tackles romanticism. The film certainly has a beautiful romantic and whimsical feel about it, without being one of the run-of-the-mill rom-coms.

However, Woody Allen’s track record has been supremely spotty in recent years. His movies just haven’t been especially inspiring or well done in comparison to his older films. However, this seems to be hitting in all the right buttons for me. Plus Own Wilson’s character seems quite lovable and then there’ s Micheal Sheen! This is definitely a must watch for me but chances of me catching it in the theater is low. Most likely a DVD/BluRay watch for me, but boy do I look forward to it. 🙂
